Sumatra Mandheling

There are three types of premium coffee beans (Ankola, Lintong and Mandheling) that are grown in volcanic soil on Sumatra, a large island belonging to the Republic of Indonesia.  In general, Sumatra coffee is characterized by an earthy flavor with low acidity levels making them particularly attractive for people who are prone to heartburn or indigestion.  Of the three premium coffee beans that are grown from Sumatra, the beans we offer are Mandheling and come from the west side of Sumatra at an elevation around 4,000 to 5,000 feet above sea level.  These beans are considered the very best of Sumatra coffee and are described as heavy bodied, syrupy with a distinct taste of licorice and chocolate notes.  We roast these beans at a dark roast to enhance the bold flavor.
